How to secretly find a ring size

Borrow a ring from the correct finger

A ring worn on the same finger of the opposite hand can provide a useful starting point, but the two hands are not always identical. A ring from the correct ring finger is better. If you can borrow it briefly, a jeweller can measure its internal diameter accurately.

Photograph it beside a scale

If borrowing is impossible, place the ring flat beside a ruler and photograph it directly from above. Include the full ruler markings and avoid perspective distortion. This is less reliable than physical measurement, but it gives us something concrete to assess privately.

Ask someone close to them

A friend, sibling or parent may already know the size or can introduce the subject naturally. Choose someone who can keep the proposal confidential. Casual group conversations about jewellery are often less suspicious than a sudden direct question.

Do not rely on these shortcuts

• Tracing the outside of a ring rather than measuring the inside.
• Trying a ring on your own finger and marking where it stops.
• Guessing from height, weight or glove size.
• Assuming an average size will be close enough.
• Using a ring worn on a completely different finger.

Design affects sizing

A wide band can feel tighter than a slim band. Some ornate, pavé or multi-stone designs have limited resizing tolerance. That is why LADFOX considers the likely size alongside the proposed setting rather than treating it as a separate number.

If you cannot obtain a reliable clue

Do not compromise the proposal by becoming too obvious. We can discuss the design and likely options by email, explain the risk and decide on the most sensible route. In some cases, planning a ring-selection moment after the proposal is better than pretending an uncertain measurement is exact.
